bbq seems like a thing of the past now. for me, maybe. i think.
not because i wanted it this way. but somehow when i entered into the working world, i found there are less of such bbqs for me to go than i used to compared to when i was still in school.
perhaps people around us are getting busy with a lot of things, such as meeting new friends, getting new hobbies, managing work, managing life...
but is being busy really keeping all of us from staying in contact with each other and meeting up for gatherings?
or maybe it's just how it is, we walk in and out of each other's paths, with or without knowing... u pass this stage and move on to the next.
some things stay, some things dun.
it sux that certain things have to turn out that way.
but then! what fun would life be if things dun change at all? how uninteresting!
after so many months since the last, i finally went to a bbq again last nite.
wow. i almost thought i couldn't make it to the bbq because of the flu bug that got to me and i was really tired.
but what the heck. i think i'll probably just drown myself in boredom if i try to stay at home on a weekend and miss out on the bbq!
so, i set off to pick up the satays which i was tasked to do in the afternoon,
and headed to the bbq.
wonder why going to bbq alone makes u perspire a lot, even if u dun move around much.
plus a hot afternoon, climbing stairs and walking around a lot to do this and that... i was soaked in my sweat!
trying to set up the fire was the first big sweating activity.
i seriously dun recall i ever had this much difficulty trying to start a fire in all previous bbqs than this one.
the help of 2 guys didnt help much. hahha..
still, i think the first task took us more than an hour and only managed to get that bit of small and weak red fire burning.

everyone were almost dying of hunger and we could hear a lot of different pairs of voices shouting across:
the same question of asking if the fire was ready manifested itself in various forms,
the basic form: "is the fire ready" then to,
"can we throw some sweet potatoes into the fire yet"
"when can we start the bbq"
"can we bbq the meats"
and finally, "is the fire not ready yet"
but we definitely made a success in smoking up the whole area with ashes and dust.
i think by then, i was too tired to eat anything. feeling very sticky and covered in a lot of dust and ashes.
so in between, i had to drink a lot of fluids to replenish my energy levels with things like green tea, lemon tea, orange juice and coke.
nothing on food yet.
these alone, filled up 3/4 of my stomach and it probably part explained why i didnt eat much for the night.
another reason was of course, cough and throat irritations mah... so i should go easy with the portions.
and the following also kinda explained a little on why: when the meats were finally cooked, food were just being passed around everywhere, and i think i was just confused at the end, because it didnt matter anymore whether it was chicken or pork or whatever, as long as it's edible, the first food that came close to the mouth would be eaten.
i remember eating a lot of sausages... they all ended up in my mouth.. is there a reason why it's all being shooved into me and i only get to eat so many those hotdogs in long and short shapes, but so little of everything else? finally, when i think back, i sort of realised i only had a piece of duno whether is pork or chicken meat, a stick of satay (no idea what meat too), 1 small mouthful of bbq stingray, a few pieces of chilli calamari, half a sweet potato, plus a lot of sausages.
i think it's the only bbq i've attended so far which i didnt get to eat any chicken wings, and so little portion of everything. was everyone just too hungry?
it rained late at night.
we ended up playing silly but fun games like bluff, deciphering truth or bluff and had a good laugh.
and hiding in the aircon room lying on the bed was... cozy and most shiok.
then passing down the skills of mahjong to newbies... was entertaining too.
we went home one by one when the rain eased slightly.. by then, it had already past midnight.
extra cab charges. aarrrghhhh.... hahha.. well, doesnt matter.
i thought this wasnt the best bbq i've been to so far.
but while on the cab, the tiredness i felt told me i definitely had good fun.
nice knowing many new friends too.
let's have more bbq!

ilove hosting and attending BBQ parties. they are the simplest, funnest event to put together. i usually tell my friends and neighbors: i have garden (re: tofu) burgers and hotdogs. i'll also have sodas. otherwise, bring your own beer and meats.
around here, we normally don't do BBQ parties until may or june, but it doesn't stop until around october or november.
