the key maker

tossing and turning to what seemed to be an insomniac night
i suddenly remembered i had a blog -
a blog that i used to pen my musings
a blog that i had put aside long enough to forget it ever existed

then there as i lay on my bed
i thought:

i'll like to think that we all live in a mansion
a house so big
that is filled in abundance with chests of all kinds of treasures
accessorises in all colours and shapes

and herein lies a chest that’s left unlocked
call it the first chest if you’ll like
and within lies the first note that reads:

“take all the time you need
take all the treasures you want
but these to be given
not to be hidden

here’s the key you can use it to exchange for other keys
only one amongst all is the real treasure of them all
find it. it’s yours waiting.”

with this, a note to set you off
on a journey full of curiosity, hopes, promises and much more

so in search of the key we now wandered
time passes with each and every places
one by one as we exchange keys from many others

and brought it back to try on our crates of treasures
one by one the chests uncovered
where’s the real treasure that it once said?

now there’s more in what we took back than we had shared
we’re confused with what’s real and what’s not

so the beauty ones we kept and hid
with judgement of our eyes and mind
and the more we kept the more we grew
our desires for everlasting beauty and glory

by nature of our birth in a life as a human
we were raised and brought up
in a world meant to protect us in the same way we will protect it

we were taught to live, love, and share
little did we realise
in the act of trying to protect we soon forget

forget
what we came back for
what the true nature was in us all
what our mission was

the skill we’d learnt to protect ourselves and our dear ones
had become the very skill we took to protect the things that were just a transient

every key was an exchange of treasure
of life’s experiences
in quest for knowledge and wisdom

every key holder we met
were our gurus
they opened up the deeply buried crates of treasures
some meant for you
but some for others

but the real treasure is not to be found
not with our eyes
nor with our hands
not with our body
nor with our mind

till we came a place
where all key holders congregated
one by one as they passed by
keys lie in their hands

and then you shouted:
“hey, key holder!
remember? i once took a key from you too”

“yes, i remembered,” came the answer,
“walk further in to get yours too”

then you came to the center
where you finally understood

where one was standing
the one person handing out
the keys you took earlier from the others
were just keys to lead you here.
